Preventing conflict, transforming justice, securing the peace: A global study on the implementation of United Nations Security Council resolution 1325
Resolution 1325 (2000) was one of the crowning achievements of the global women’s movement and one of the most inspired decisions of the United Nations Security Council. Since then, a total of 10 Security Council resolutions on women, peace and security (WPS) have been adopted, and critical gains across all four pillars of the WPS agenda have been achieved, with real impacts in the lives of women and girls. However, work remains to be done.
The global study on the implementation of UN Security Council resolution 1325, published in 2015, calls on the entire United Nations, Member States, civil society, and all actors to ground their understanding of conflict and its changing dynamics within the context-specific needs and concerns of women and girls. Each chapter is a deep dive into the WPS agenda. It showcases the history of the hard-won achievements, provides data and analysis, and offers concrete recommendations for Member States, the United Nations, and others on pushing the agenda forward.
In addition to the study, you can find research that informed it, as well as a number of thematic and regional resources and fact sheets that help break down the key findings and recommendations and continue to inform the ongoing implementation of the WPS agenda.
